Finding the driver
In clinic I’m almost always working on one of three drivers: androgen excess, blood sugar and insulin, or the gut. Your breakout pattern, your cycle and your blood work tell me which one is running the show, and that’s what decides the treatment, because acne treated at the wrong driver simply doesn’t shift.
Treating it properly
Treatment is matched to your picture and may include specific herbal medicine with anti-androgenic actions, targeted nutrients in the forms your skin actually responds to, and food changes aimed at the insulin and gut side of the story. Where testing will change the plan, I organise it, and everything works comfortably alongside anything topical your GP or dermatologist has you on.
Frequently asked questions
Can a naturopath help with hormonal acne?
A naturopath approaches hormonal acne by investigating and treating the internal drivers, most often androgen excess, blood sugar and insulin patterns, and gut health. At woman + womb this includes herbal medicine, targeted nutrition and testing where needed, working alongside your GP or dermatologist rather than replacing them.
How long does natural treatment for hormonal acne take?
Skin cells turn over on a roughly six-week cycle, so most treatment plans are reviewed across two to three cycles. Many women notice earlier changes in oiliness and the depth of breakouts, but I’m honest that internal acne treatment is a months-long project, not a two-week fix.
Do I need to stop my current skincare or medication?
No. Internal treatment runs comfortably alongside topical treatment, and I never ask you to stop prescribed medication. With your consent I’m happy to communicate with your GP or dermatologist so everything works together.
